It has been a few weeks since I first heard the term...
Media Addict
I can't stop thinking about it.
Why?
Hello, my name is Ashley & I am addicted to media.
movies, music, TV, video games... blogs and blogging...
If I had to go a day without internet access
I would not be a happy camper.
I am sure this is extremely unhealthy,
both physically and mentally.
Zach and I plan our days around what is on TV,
what movies come out and when...
We are constantly laying in bed watching TV,
one of us on the laptop, one of us on the iPad.
Our TV is rarely turned off,
we have a constant stream of downloads,
infiltrating our house at all times.
It got bad when we got Netflix and even worse when I got a smart phone.
I use to let the battery on my phone die and stay dead for days,
but now I am always checking everyones facebook statuses and my email.
In a recent study people who were asked to give up their media connections
for only a 24 hour period,
began to experience withdrawal symptoms similar
to those seen in drug and alcohol addicts,
including cravings, anxieties, and preoccupation
to the point of being unable to function well.
Does anyone else feel like they are experiencing this as well?
Here are some things that eat away my days...
be careful, they are addicting :(

OMG glow puzzle... I'm on puzzle #190 something
and I have only had it for two days

I've actually seen this twice already
and it has only been out for a short time :(
Alright well,
I'm off to read blogs while Zach plays Black Ops.
Maybe I should try going one day without any media...
maybe a wednesday,
yeah... nothing good is on TV on wednesdays.

I'm not that bad but I tend to always have the tv on just for background noise and if that isn't on then pandora is or some other form of noise.
ReplyDeleteNetflix is a big deal in our house. My little one is getting addicted to it. She is obsessed with the Backyardagains and I am now regretting the decision to get it because she is driving me insane with the show.
Good luck with going a day without media..it is a big adventure. I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday planned!
BTW, I want to see Due Date sooooo bad! Maybe this Friday the hubs and I will have a date night.
You are so hilarious, but you speak the utter truth. I think most people in this age are addicted to media, but I know I have it bad as well. I am addicted to facebook, house, gossip girl and desperate housewives. I compulsively check blogs, netflix is always running in my house, and don't even get my started on my smart phone. I am incredibly addicted, and it is really nice to hear I am not alone. =D
ReplyDeleteomg you guys sound like me and my husband. we'll be sitting here on the weekends and all you hear is the typing of the keypad. its kinda sad and i'm trying to cut back but i totally go through withdrawl its crazy!
ReplyDeletebut i am also really liking the walking dead. that and dexter make my sunday evenings :)
I've had to do a "media detox" for school because I was a Mass Comm major and it sucked. We could either go without radio, TV, Internet, and movies for 2 days orrrr go without any and all media including books, newspaper, all of the above mentioned, and a bunch of other media sources for one day. So hard. I think I'm pretty addicted, too.
ReplyDeleteI think we might be twins. Mostly with TV shows. The Walking Dead, Weeds, House, Aqua Teen, House...yeah, some of my top faves. Especially The Walking Dead!! It's sooo good so far.
ReplyDeleteI think it's okay to be addicted to media...I mean, come on, that's what our generation is all about! =]
Great list you got here!!! Seems like you can read my mind!! Love it all!
ReplyDeleteI'm awful too, i live on the internet - blogging, shopping, watching catch up tv, just generally wasting time. I don't know what i'd do without it! Its funny cause i'm writing an essay on internet addiction right now actually :P x
ReplyDeleteIt's weird, I've always considered myself a media addict, too. But do you know what? My old TV set burnt down probably 5 months ago and I haven't watched much TV since then. I occasionally use my sister's TV but very rarely. And trust me, I used to watch A LOT of programs: The Office, The Big Bang Theory, The Whitest Kids U Know, Party Down, reruns of Friends, Dharma & Greg, you name it. I honestly don't miss TV that much. I'm not going to lie to you. If I sit in front of it I'll probably spend a good few hours watching stuff; but I can do away with it.
ReplyDeleteAs for the internet, that's harder! BUT 2 years ago my PC burnt down too and haven't owned one since. Thank God my sister lends me hers! Oh, actually, I do own one! David got me a pretty laptop computer :D, but I've never even seen it; it's in California waiting for me.
Thank you for having taught me more cute words! Now I know what I'll say the next time I'm cold, haha! :)
I just called myself a media whore today. But I guess addict would be more accurate.
ReplyDeleteHi, it's me again! To tell you that I've tagged you. If you want to accept the tag, go ahead! :)
ReplyDeleteHug!
Well I am proud to say that I'm not that kind of media addict recently.
ReplyDeletesince I live far away from home I'm stuck in my new place with no tv, no newspaper, even internet connections and woo hoo I can't believe I am living now!
anyway, I absolutely agree with Amateur Surgeon, isn't it just the best game ever?! Geez, you could call me anti-social if I start to play it hehe
and yeah I cant wait to see Robert Downey Jr. on Due Date! too bad they haven't played it yet here in Indonesia :(
Addict! hehe Umm...I love House, Office and Vampire Diaries. I am caught up on Office thanks to the internets and having tv again. But SO behind on the others. You remember when we moved and I was without internet for what seems like ever? Well I drove all the way into town and road around trying to find a hot spot because I was going nuts! Nuts I tell ya.
ReplyDeleteAhhhhhhhh Amateur Surgeon!! Hahaha. I played the first version of that (on friv.com!) and I could NOT get passed this one level! I can't remember which one it was, but it was sooooooo hard. Love that game though, haha. And I am totally addicted to reading blogs & stuff.
ReplyDeleteHaving Instant Netflix on our XBox has been the best/worst. Seasons & SEASONS of our favorite shows at the push of a button. My roommate, Harrison, is on the 11th year of Law & Order right now.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Angry Birds...my phone goes dead twice a day from B & I passing it back and forth. When he's playing Angry Birds on my phone, I'm playing Sieger on my laptop.
Lately, because I didn't realize how extremely boring not having a job OR having money would be, I've been watching every professional makeup tutorial ever.
I've made 27,000 wish lists and emailed them to my mother until she texted me to say she would no longer be checking her emails.
And the kicker? Some of these things were done discreetly at parties. Wow. Sad. Depressing, even.
